Yes of course! The University of Wales hosts an annual Graduation Celebration in Cardiff to mark the achievements of students graduating with validated awards. In 2007, more than a thousand guests from seventeen different countries – from as far away as China and Japan to as close as England and Scotland – congregated at Cardiff City Hall in Cardiff.

Since its inception in 1998, this colourful event has continued to grow in size as graduates and their family and friends from all over the globe gather in Cardiff to celebrate together. As part of this event, Ede and Ravenscroft - the University’s official robe makers - are on hand to ensure all graduates are attired in the appropriate academic dress for their formal presentation. Officers from the University of Wales also take part to offer their congratulations during the formal proceedings.

The tickets for this event are free and all graduates of validated schemes are invited to join in this annual Celebration. The next event is to be held in Spring 2009 at Cardiff City Hall.

What is TASMAC looking for in an applicant?
As you consider applying to TASMAC London, you should keep in mind that we are not looking for one single trait or quality; there is not a magic formula for "the kind of student who excels at TASMAC." Instead, we are trying to make a match between the student and the school. We need students who will not only grow in TASMAC's stimulating intellectual environment, but also our vibrant extracurricular and diverse social activities. Along these lines, we are searching for students who have demonstrated academic motivation and intellectual curiosity during their years of previous study.

May I submit supplemental materials with my application?
You certainly may augment your application with additional materials, but we ask you to be selective in what you include. Although we require only two letters of recommendation, if you feel it is absolutely necessary, you may include additional input from a teacher, school administrative official, or employer. You are also welcome to submit additional class work, lab work, slides and newspaper articles to TASMAC. Please note that supplemental materials are not required, and submitted materials will not be returned.

What are you looking for in a letter of recommendation?
Recommendation letters should come from professors, project directors, employers -- anyone who can not only describe concrete examples of your talent and interesting things that you have done, but who also can speak to your passion, enthusiasm, critical-thinking and people-skills. Friends, family, and peers should not be your letter writers; we are looking for people who can evaluate your previous work from a supervisory or instructional standpoint.
Remember that you should ask your recommenders for letters early and clearly give them a deadline. Often, the only thing keeping us from reviewing a student's file is their missing recommendations. Ultimately, you are responsible for making sure that your application is complete.

What exactly is a Personal Statement?
A personal statement is typically 1-2 single spaced pages and describes various aspects of what attracts you to your area of study and TASMAC, what you hope to do after graduation, what you think you are good (and not so good) at, what you would like to learn. In general your statement should give the admissions committee a better feel for you as a person. You should take this statement very seriously; use it as an opportunity for self-reflection and focusing of your own vision for yourself, as well as a tool for our admissions process.

Additionally, the personal statement is an opportunity for the admissions committee to evaluate your written English language abilities and your capacity of formulating logical argument.

When would I receive a decision?
Once your application is complete the admissions committee can usually make a decision within a few days. We do not hold complete applications without processing them.

What is a conditional offer?
Those students who receive a Conditional Offer are expected to fulfil some requirement in order to be unconditionally accepted at TASMAC. This is a standard practice in higher education and conditions vary with the individual. Usually, however, conditions are related to some incomplete part of the application package. If you are made a Conditional Offer, you would have a guaranteed place at TASMAC provided that you fulfil the conditional mentioned on the conditional offer within the specified time.

Must I attend TASMAC full time?
TASMAC does offer part time enrolment for students who do not require a visa to study in this country. For all international student full time enrolment and registration is required. International students can only enrol for full time programmes in the UK.

What special requirements exist for international students interested in TASMAC?
TASMAC's international students need to meet the additional requirements of proving English language abilities through a TOEFL or IELTS score, proving they can pay for the tuition fees and support themselves during their period of study, and be granted a student visa for study in the UK.

If I do not have all required documents quite ready and the deadline is at hand, what should I do?
Send in what you have ready. However, there is no guarantee of review of your file should the programme requested fill its classes before the missing items have been received.

I earned an undergraduate degree that only took 3 years. Am I eligible to apply for the programme?
Yes! There are a number of education systems around the world that offer 3-year undergraduate programs based on higher initial entry requirements. The UK is a good example. If you have received a Bachelor's degree upon completion of such an undergraduate program, you are eligible to apply for our MBA program.

Is work experience required for the MBA programme?
Although work experience is not required to start the MBA, we strongly recommend it. We find that students who have experienced the workplace have a greater capacity for seeing the application of the tuition they are receiving.

How much work experience do most accepted students have? Is there a particular type of work experience TASMAC looks for?
The average MBA student at TASMAC has worked for 3 or 4 years between school and starting their programme. The Admissions Committee looks for individuals who exhibit professional maturity. In other words, we evaluate work experience not in terms of years but the depth and breadth of an individual's position, his or her contributions to the work environment, and level of responsibility and progression. TASMAC looks for diversity in the professional backgrounds of its admitted students just as it does in all other parts of our applicants' profiles. No one industry is favored over another, and experience in a Fortune 500 company does not have higher value than experience in a small business or public institution.

I am still an undergraduate student. What I can do to increase my chances for admission to your Masters programmes?
In terms of course work, the stronger your quantitative background, the better prepared you will be to take finance, statistics, accounting, economics, and other quantitative courses offered in our curriculum. Calculus is a good foundation for this. We frequently accept students without this type of background, but we do like to see some indication of a capacity to handle these types of topics (e.g., strong quantitative scores, strong performance in previous courses of this type). We are also interested in your history of involvement at the undergraduate level and beyond.

Do I need to apply via UCAS for admission into the BA (Hons) in Business Administration?

What do I need to know before travelling to the UK?
General Information about the UK
The United Kingdom comprises England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Greater London covers an area of over 600 square miles and has an ever-growing population, currently over 8 million people.
Throughout it's history, Britain's own culture has been enriched by many other nationalities. Sometimes by conquering nations! Other times by those seeking asylum or choosing to emigrate here. London, especially, is home to many different nationalities which provides a fascinating variety of culture, food and entertainment.

Climate: The UK has a very varied climate. November to March are typically cold and wet with the possibility of snow on higher ground. Average temperatures are between 0º and 10º C (50º F). The temperature in summer (July and August) can reach up to 32º C (90º F). More detailed information is available on the BBC website: www.bbc.co.uk/weather

Clothing: Whatever the time of year, it is best to have warm clothing with you. During the winter months, a warm waterproof coat is essential. If you plan to explore the UK during your vacations, please remember to bring appropriate clothing, especially if you are travelling to the north of the UK.

Working/Opening Hours: Supermarkets are open from 8:30 to 20:00 throughout the week and usually 10:00 to 17:00 on Sundays. Some supermarkets in cities are now open 24 hours a day. In major cities such as London, there are many specialist shops selling a wide variety of food so you may still be able to cook up your favourite meal!

Shops are generally open from 9:00 to 17:30 (Monday to Saturday) with some shops opening later on certain days or open for a few hours on Sunday. In some smaller towns "half-day closing" occurs. On one day in the week most shops will close at lunchtime. This no longer happens in most larger stores and in cities. Offices hours tend to be 9:00 to 17:00. Banks open from 9:30 to 5:30 (some Banks are opening on Saturday morning).

Health: If you are planning a short visit to London on a visitors visa to look at different colleges before applying, please remember to buy health insurance.
If you have come from a country with a health-care agreement with the UK or are staying for more than six months, you may be able to obtain free medical or dental treatment under the NHS. If you are a long-term student (12 months or more), it is advisable for you to register with a local Doctor. We can provide contact details for doctors in your area. You will need to contact the doctor to see if they are accepting new patients and you will normally need to have an appointment to provide basic information about your medical history.

You can get more information from the Department of Health: Website:
www.doh.gov.uk/overseasvisitors

Telephone: +44 (0)20 7210 4850
E-mail: dhmail@doh.gsi.gov.uk

Public Transport: In London there is an extensive public transport system - trains, buses, underground trains and light railway. If you use a taxi in London, it is best to use the well-recognised London taxis known as "Black Cabs". They will usually provide a guide to the fare and operate under a proper license. However, public transport is much cheaper!

The Greater London area is divided into six travel zones. Zone 1 covers the main business and shopping districts in the centre of London. The School is located in Zone 3. This may sound complex but members of the school administration team will be happy to explain how the travel system works. You can buy daily, weekly and monthly travel cards which either give you access to the buses or to both buses and underground trains. For weekly, monthly, annual or season tickets travel cards, you will need a photocard and you can also apply for student reduction rates. (Only qualifying students may receive the student discount subject to terms and conditions)

An 18+ Student Oyster photocard entitles the holder to buy student-rate Travelcards and Bus Pass season tickets valid for 7 days, one month or longer periods of up to one year, which cost 30 per cent less than adult-rate season tickets. Credit can also be added to an 18+ Student Oyster photocard to pay adult-rate Oyster single fares, which are cheaper than paying cash.
Single, daily, 3 Day tickets and Oyster single fares are not available at student-rate. If you live near your education establishment or only make a few journeys you can get a normal Oyster card and pay as you go at adult-rate. These are available online or from Tube stations, London Overground stations, Oyster Ticket Stops or London Travel Information Centres and some National Rail stations.

Useful information about public transport in London can be found on www.londontransport.co.uk and www.thetube.com

Outside of London public transport varies from area to area. Most major towns and cities are linked by railway. Cities will have regular bus services but smaller towns may not. Internal flights also operate between major cities.

Social Customs and Leisure: British people are generally reserved and value their privacy. It is customary to shake hands when meeting someone for the first time, whether male or female. Other physical contact is generally avoided with anyone other than family and close friends.

May I bring my spouse and children with me?
Your spouse and any of your children under 18 may be able to apply to accompany you during your studies provided you can maintain and accommodate them adequately without recourse to public funds.

Is my spouse allowed to work?
Your spouse may be allowed to work if you were granted leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom for 12 months or more. You must check the terms of your spouse's Visa carefully as this may differ.

How much is the estimated Living Expenses?
We advise our students that the cost of living for one year is approximately £6,000 to £9,000. This includes accommodation, travel and exam fees. These prices are an example

Travel: as a student you will get reductioned travel on London buses and the underground train system so (depending where you live) your month travel card will cost about £20 to £35.

Food: you would expect to pay about £20 / £30 per week on food for one person.

Books: there is a recommended reading list for students. Tutors may also suggest additional books which may be helpful. We would suggest budgeting about £100 to £300. You also must buy your own stationery (pens, paper, etc).

Accommodation: We have teamed up with local estate agents and residents to provide students with affordable accommodation. We can arrange host family accommodation for you at a cost of approx. £100per week. Many of our students will do this as a short-term option and then arrange to share accommodation with fellow students (this usually works out a cheaper).

What is the social life like?
Living in London offers a multitude of social opportunities. There's never a lack of things to do when you're surrounded by historical sites, museums, natural history, and night life.. For further details on the social aspect of London go to the "Living in London" portion of the TASMAC web site.
