These Study Skills Workshops
run once a week throughout the academic year.
You may be required to attend these workshops if
your teachers feel you need additional help with
your English Language skills or with a
particular area of study. Students may also
volunteer to attend these seminars if they feel
they need some additional help. Classes will
support your language progress, and help to
ensure that as a student you are successful in
obtaining a good degree.
Programme Structure
The following workshops are
held regularly at TASMAC London and are open to
all TASMAC students.
Academic Reading and Note
Taking
These workshops will help you
to read academic texts more efficiently and
effectively. It will also help you take concise
notes
Academic
listening
The aim of these workshops is
to help you if you have difficulty understanding
spoken English. They focuses particularly on the
skills needed for understanding and taking notes
in lectures and seminars.
Critical
Thinking
These workshops will help you to develop
thinking skills by asking questions students.
Grammar
Revision
These workshops provide
explanations and practice in areas of grammar
that cause the most difficulty for students.
Presentation
Skills
These workshops will help you
with the kind of speaking skills you need for
academic study, giving short talks and
presentations, and participating in
discussions.
Essay Writing
These workshops cover all the
major skills involved in essay writing and
approaches to written assignments. They will
help you prepare for
examinations.
Thesis
Writing
This workshop covers the main
skills necessary for effective essay writing and
addresses key problems in academic writing for
native English speakers.
Thesis writing
These workshops are designed
to help you if you are preparing to write a
thesis or dissertation; we will cover writing,
study and research skills.

Handouts
Only attendees receive
handouts.
Student Report
At the end of each semester
we will provide a student report for both
yourself and your teacher. This will include a
description of the work you have undertaken, an
attendance record, and an indication of your
progress.
Fees
The workshops are available
to enrolled TASMAC London students only and are
free of charge.
