 Accommodation at TASMAC
One of the first questions we get asked from students thinking about coming to London to study is “What about Accommodation”? At TASMAC London the answer is “Easy – Let us assist us on this. What did you have in mind?” For many of our students, coming to TASMAC London is the first time living away from home, and the prospect of coming to a major city like London can appear quite daunting for anyone. So, it is vital that you have somewhere affordable to live in which you feel comfortable and safe. At the Student Services office, we’re here to try and make sure that your needs are met.
As you will soon discover, there is more to being a student at TASMAC than lectures, essays and assessments. During your time here you will meet many people and make friendships that you will keep for the rest of your life. London is a vibrant, diverse, multicultural city and TASMAC reflects this with students from all over the world and with extremely varied backgrounds.
Students attending TASMAC are free to make their own accommodation arrangements, but if assistance is needed, we have a team of dedicated professionals available who can help. Student accommodation in London takes a wide variety of forms and TASMAC will assist you with your individual needs. Here is an overview of the accommodation choices available to you:
TASMAC Student Shared Apartments (Flats)
TASMAC has committed to apartments in the Kingsbury area near the school and made these available to our students as accommodation for the time of your stay here. These are usually 2 or 3 bedroom apartments of high standard and are shared among 4 to 6 students of the same gender. Each flat location differs in architectural style, size, and neighbourhood, yet all provide a safe and comfortable environment. Flats have fully furnished and equipped kitchens, bathroom(s), and communal living areas. Laundry facilities are located nearby. Efforts are made to place students with others who share similar traditions, beliefs, cultures, and study interests. This type of housing is located within easy commuting distance of the school and major London attractions. Here are a few of the features of the student shared apartments.
High standard of quality decoration and furnishings
All utility fees are included except for the telephone
All accommodation is in shared flats (4 students in 2 bedroom flats and 6 students in 3 bedroom flats)
All flats feature fully fitted kitchens, have a minimum of 1 bathroom with a shower, are centrally heated and include a lounge with a television.
Most students prepare their meals in their flats and supermarkets and restaurants are nearby.
All flats are subjected to a buildings regulations inspection by TASMAC Staff each academic term to ensure legal compliance is maintained satisfactorily.
Homestay Accommodation (Paying Guest)
This arrangement is ideal for students who want to practice their English and learn about lifestyles and cultures in England. Most unmarried students coming to stay in England for the first time choose to stay with a host family.
Our homestay arrangements are made through Hosts International who carefully select all homestays to ensure that they are friendly, helpful, and offer a high standard of comfort. Average travelling times vary but all are within central London.
Our most common option is a single room with breakfast and dinner. However, if you wish you can have only breakfast at home and eat your evening meal out. Prices range from £95 - £210 per week half board depending on location.
Executive Homestay
This type of arrangement is similar to a standard homestay with a family in a central London location and offers an even higher standard of accommodation. Most have an en-suite bathroom. Most executive Homestay hosts are professionals. Prices £170 – 190 per week half board
International Student House
International student House can be described as privately owned student dormitories with over 500 beds and loads of fun and useful facilities. They’re always highly rated in reviews and are located in zone 1 on the Underground rail system. (TASMAC is located in zone 4)
International Students House is centrally located near Regents Park, London. They have two buildings, one located on Great Portland Street opposite Great Portland St Underground Station (Zone 1), and the other, Mary Trevelyan Hall, located on York Terrace East, close to Baker Street Underground station. Well known areas and attractions such as Oxford Street, Madame Tussauds, The British Museum & British Library are close by and good connections on the public transport system result in easy travel to anywhere in London.
International Student House provides accommodation in combinations of single, twin, triple, quad and dormitory rooms. All rooms have wash basins and telephones and all linen is included. There are toilets and showers on every floor and fridges in private rooms.
Private Apartments – Arranged independently by the Student
Known in the UK as “Flats” this style of accommodation is usually chosen by married students or a group of students wishing to share accommodation costs and planning to stay longer. Our students who wish to “Flat share” often wait until their second term to become more familiar with their classmates and the London environment. Leases run for 9 months to a year and usually require a deposit. Prices vary with location but you should budget for £90 - £115 per person per week in zone 4.
Other Accommodation Options
You may like to stay in a hotel, guest house, or with family or friends who live in London. The decision is up to you, but whatever your needs, we try to help you find the option that best fits your needs.
What will it cost?
Living in London is relatively expensive for international students as well as the other 7 million people living in this city! Your housing costs will probably be the largest part of your weekly spending and you must think about your decision to choose a specific type of accommodation carefully. (Please see our Student Costs of Living in London page on this web site)
The least expensive option is to stay with friends or family who may be here already, but you can’t abuse their hospitality forever! The second option for a student on a budget is to rent a room or share a flat with other people, but this is the most complex of the answer since you will have to take care of pretty much everything by yourself from bed linen to paying the water bill.
If you like to opt for the more arranged type of accommodation with a good social life thrown in then the TASMAC Student Share apartments are for you.
The accommodation procedure at TASMAC
Indicate on the Admissions application form that you wish for TASMAC to send you information regarding accommodation. This will prompt the Student Services department at the school to send you a separate package of information and an accommodation application form. It does not commit you to anything at this point. If you decide you would like this information after you’ve submitted the admissions form you may simply contact TASMAC by e-mail of phone and we will send you the housing information pack.
Review the information contained in the package and the housing options available to you. From this information you should determine a budget available for housing and decide what type of housing best fits your needs, lifestyle, and finances. This could be the TASMAC Apartments, Home-stay with a family, International Student House dormitories, private flats shared with other students, or arrangements independent of the school.
Complete and return the Accommodation application forms if you would like for TASMAC to make arrangements on your behalf. TASMAC does not charge for this nor do they receive any payments from the landlords or companies involved. From the information submitted to us TASMAC will provide specific options for you to choose from and contact you with these details. These must be returned to us a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your arrival.
You make your choice about your accommodation and let us know. We will follow your instructions and make the arrangements. Note: Some landlords may require a deposit in advance as a guarantee and if this is the case with your selection we will let you know as soon as possible. In most cases deposits may be paid upon arrival but in advance of moving into your housing. You should arrive prepared to fulfil this requirement.
Arrive and enjoy! TASMAC can also make arrangements to have you picked up at the airport and deliver you to your accommodation if you complete and return the Arrival Information Form as soon as you know your travel plans. There is normally a £50 charge for this service.

Accommodation for Families and Dependants
Although our students do not usually come here with their family and dependents it may happen that you will want to bring your family to the UK once you feel settled. In that case you will have to find accommodation for them by renting private flats or houses.
Deposits
Whichever accommodation is suitable for you, you will always have to pay a deposit in advance. This is usually the equivalent of one months rent money which will be used towards your accommodation costs or will be held as a security fund until you leave. This type of deposit is refunded on your departure if the place you have been living is returned to its owner in its original state.
What to bring?
That will depend on what kind of accommodation you have chosen so please check in the descriptions above about what will be provided. Generally the more independent the accommodation the more you will have to bring with you. Some students feel that they need to bring everything with them, some decided to buy their essentials here and save luggage space for other things. You may want to bring with you: Towels, bed linen (sometimes provided), toiletries, pyjamas, etc. Please note that any electrical goods will require an adaptor as electric plugs are specific to the UK only. Oh, and did we mention that you’ll probably need an umbrella?
